Liquid Jewels: How This Historic Italian House Crafted the Ultimate Everyday Luxury
CONTARINI VINI E SPUMANTI
Between Venice and the Alps lies a landscape of gentle hills, quietly protected by time. As the morning mist slowly lifts, the delicate scent of acacia arrives before the sunlight. And those fine, persistent bubbles seem to carry the soft voice of the land itself.
In the sixteenth century, Zaccaria Contarini — a member of the noble Venetian Contarini family and podestà of Conegliano — was deeply enchanted by this scenery and the wines it produced. Centuries later, when Dino Tombacco founded the winery on the same land in 1957, he chose this name as a gesture of respect. Not to recreate past glory, but to allow that same sensitivity to beauty and refined taste to continue breathing in a new era.
This is the heart of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene hills. Steep slopes, a unique microclimate, and generations of accumulated wisdom have together shaped the most delicate expression of the Glera grape. In 2019, these hills were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, becoming part of humanity’s shared cultural memory. For Contarini, however, heritage is never a preserved relic. It is a living tradition — one that must be carefully listened to and gently reinterpreted.

They have found a quiet balance between tradition and innovation: preserving the most authentic voice of the land, while using contemporary precision and sensitivity to transform that voice into beauty that can be tasted. They call these sparkling wines “Jewels to drink” — not out of ostentation, but because true elegance has always been something that can be approached, shared, and remembered.

Every bottle of Contarini is a gentle invitation: to pause, even briefly, in the rush of everyday life; to rediscover, through the senses, a landscape, a history, and a more unhurried way of appreciating beauty.
It does not seek to prove anything. It simply exists — quietly — like the morning mist on the hills, like acacia blossoms swaying softly in the breeze.
