Wine for pleasure

While drinking wine for pleasure and writing about wine as career, I was often asked when I had my first sip and how I became attached to wine. It is a question I reflect on at times, and I have different explanations once in a while. I also ask others how they become wine drinkers, of which I get answers of all sorts. Some friends like to gulp on wine, some say wine lifts up the atmosphere, and when feeling emotional, wine makes people feel better. Some avoid drinking because they do not want to die, and some think life is empty and boring without wine. There is also a type, the “scholar”, who drinks as if they wish to look into the essence in every bottle regardless of the occasions, of which they are not popular among friends. After all, most people hope to seek happiness with wine. My mentality has been constantly changing, and now I usually look at wine drinking differently during work hours. At work, I seek for what the wine can offer, whether it shows the terroir, vintage, people and events behind; yet at gatherings, I hope to be dive in and enjoy. What is required is not the wine itself, but the people who drink with me.
